This Past Weekend Southwest Champs!!

Well this past weekend was the last Cheerleading Comp. of the season what a joy it was to see our Cheerleaders WIN!!! And to see all the smiles and tears of joy on there faces as they become Southwest Champs!! But ya know what when you have the best Coach like Coach Stacie Kohles that is to be expected..

April 18th - When ACU started the 2009-2010 season everyone had one goal, and that was to have a great season and finish with an IALC world championship! Well all the teams have had a great season. Sure there were bumps along the way, but in sports there are always bumps.

ACU entered IALC coming off an over the top weekend in Bentonville, that had all the teams primed and ready to take on everyone IALC could throw at them. All three ACU teams strolled into Dallas with an attitude that could only be described as "Yeah were from Arkansas, beat us if you can!". Each team was ready and willing to show that a small gym in Arkansas could win in Texas when divisions were balanced like they should be. Large gyms go against large gyms and small gyms go against small gyms! With this being the case at IALC, ACU was there to not waste the opportunity they had in front of them!

Saturdays performances started out with the senior team performing first. Every one of these girls put their heart and soul into a 2-1/2 minute routine. While it wasn't perfect, it was good enough to be named the Southwest Regional Runner-Up. As this team left the floor after the awards ceremony, I had images in my head of the graduating seniors. I could see some of them as 11 and 12 year old girls, some of them who had cheered with coach Stacie for 9 years or better. I have not known all of them for as long as I have some, but that doesn't make them less a JAG. They have all grown up in front of us. Cheering their hearts out time and time again. Every year I say this, and I mean it every time. No matter where you go, no matter how long you cheered at ACU, you will always be a JAG, and if you scratch deep enough you will bleed silver and blue!

After the morning awards the youth and junior teams started getting ready for their spot in the sun. The youth team would be the first to take the floor. If you are a baseball fan, you know that in baseball they keep track of every stat you can think of, but in cheerleading we keep only one: WINS!!! By my count this team in this format (large youth level 1) was never beat. They out paced everyone that got in their way. They went out and proved that if you work hard, and have the right coaching staff, you can win and you can win big! You are Southwest Regional Champions with a 1 in 5 shot at becoming world champions. That is something that other teams in the area can just go to bed at night and dream about!

After the youth finished, it was the juniors turn. There was a look in their eyes I had not seen since back in the day when I lumbered around on a high school football field. The intense look that a linebacker has right before he unloads the hurt on a running back. This team was on fire and that fire was hot enough to melt the springs in the spring floor! They took the floor and exploded! They had waited for just this moment to pounce (like a good jaguar will do), and pounce they did. As the announcement was made the junior girls jumped to their feet and ran in circles, parents were pumping their fist and screaming, and coach Stacie was so happy she cried!

As the youth and junior teams greeted their parents some were crying, some couldn't quit smiling. Gold metals around their neck made them the Southwest Regional Champions. Not a Texas team, but two Arkansas teams with a shot at the title of WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Bring on Cincinnati, Atlanta, Atlantic City, and Long Beach winners. We are ready! Do you have what it takes to beat a JAG???

General Information:

ACU's coaching staff would like to clear up some misinformation that has been rumored over the past several years. Our tryout process is open to every person age 5 to 18 who wants to take part in All-Star cheerleading. Every athlete that try's out will make an all-star team based on the persons ability and age. ACU does not turn anyone away no matter what your skill level.

Our tryout process is completely free. We only request that the athletes bring themselves in apparel suitable for tumbling and at least one parent or guardian to attend a parent meeting that takes place following the tryouts. This meeting will explain in detail the requirements for being on an all-star team, along with the cost involved. This meeting will also go into the fundraising that we do every year to offset the cost of competing. ACU has taken great pride in the fact that our fundraising club is the very best offered anywhere and is run completely by parent volunteers.

Answer: NO... The uniform is around $280

Are the ACU tryouts free?
Answer: Yes, completely free!

Does coach Stacie beat her athletes?
Answer: NO, but feel free to request it!

Has ACU really won 45 national championships since 2003?
Answer: Yes... We have the trophies to prove it!

Does your son or daughter have to have a required tumbling skill to be an ACU all-star?
Answer: No. We are here to teach that.

Are all-star practices difficult?
Answer: Not any more difficult than any other team sport, but athletes do have to work hard.

Do you have to be rich to afford the all-star program?
Answer: No. ACU offers a fundraising club that allows you to raise your money. Any one can do this!

Can an ACU all-star compete in other sports besides cheerleading?
Answer: Yes, but if that sport interferes with practices or meets, then it's best to choose one or the other.

Does everyone that tries out for all-stars make a team?
Answer: Yes, absolutely. We don't turn anyone away.

Does ACU have the areas only USASF certified level 6 coach?
Answer: Yes. Coach Stacie is the only USASF level 6 certified coach, and there are only 2 in the entire state of Arkansas!
